M4GIC-ILC

Multi-modal, Multi-site, Multi-omic, Multi-AGent AI framework for the clinical management of ILC

key facts

M4GIC-ILC is a 36-month Horizon Europe EIC Pathfinder Challenge bringing together experts across Europe to develop a next-generation, AI-powered framework to improve the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC), the second most common subtype of breast cancer. By integrating multimodal, multi-site and multi-omic data with advanced artificial intelligence, the project aims to support more accurate, personalised and trustworthy clinical decision making. Ultimately, M4GIC-ILC aspires to improve patient stratification, treatment selection, and outcomes across Europe.

"The remarkable diversity of invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC), from its microscopic appearance and radiological presentation to its clinical behavior, metastatic patterns, molecular landscape, and complex immunohistochemical profile, has driven the M4GIC-ILC consortium to reimagine ILC care through artificial intelligence. M4GIC-ILC will deliver a disease-specific, modular, multi-agent system that enhances diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment prediction, providing an integrated understanding of ILC that moves beyond current fragmented approaches and addresses the longstanding underrepresentation of ILC patients."

THE PROJECT

Accurately assessing how far breast cancer has spread is essential for treatment planning, but this is particularly difficult in ILC because it often appears subtle on scans and grows diffusely through tissue. Although advanced imaging and standardised pathology guidelines can help, there is still no integrated framework designed specifically for ILC. M4GIC-ILC will address this gap by combining radiology, pathology, molecular and clinical data in an explainable AI system to support diagnosis, staging and prognosis.

THE Portfolio

M4GIC-ILC is part of the EIC Pathfinder Challenge portfolio “Generative-AI based Agents to Revolutionise Medical Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer”. The portfolio brings together seven pioneering European projects developing generative AI, autonomous agents, digital twins and multimodal approaches to support more precise and personalised cancer diagnosis and treatment. Through joint portfolio activities, the projects will exchange knowledge and work towards common technological, clinical and societal goals.
